When Growth Goes Bad #3: Micromanagement

May 28, 2019 9:59:00 AM / by Lee Goudzwaard-Vaught posted in employees, quick tip, small business advice

Growth for a business is good, right?

Yes and no. There are always complications that come with growth. What worked with a few people might not always work when your company is much bigger. A common challenge that business owners face is:

When Being Too Hands On is Actually Just Micromanaging

It’s your business, and you’ve dedicated yourself every day to growing it, caring for it, and making sure that everything works right.

Here’s the thing: you did a great job and now it’s time to delegate some of those tasks to the very capable people you hired to do them.

It might feel hard or scary at first, but think about how you’re using your time. If it’s not the most valuable way you can be used, then you’re messing it up for your company. Don’t be a Nervous Nelly, trust the people you’ve hired. Not only will they surprise you with good work, but they’ll also feel a new sense of purpose and focus now that they have some proprietorship over their work.

Responsibility is good!
