Our website clearly says that annual business taxes are included in our monthly accounting service, but what about the personal taxes of our business clients?
Long story short: your individual taxes are not included in our monthly accounting service – but you may still want to have us handle them. This article is going to cover why this is an opt-in service, as well as why you should opt in.
At CSI Accounting & Payroll, we’ve provided monthly accounting and tax services to businesses (and their owners) for nearly 60 years. That means we’ve answered thousands of questions like these:
“So, you don’t charge any tax-time fees for your business’s annual taxes – but you charge for my personal taxes? Why not just include them too?”
Well, we made personal taxes into an opt-in service for one main reason: large variations in the number of forms. We charge on a per-form basis, and when the forms vary so much from person to person, it’s impossible to estimate that cost and spread it across the monthly fees (as we do with business tax costs, which vary significantly less).
Because of this large range of forms, there’s a large fee range of about $600 to over $1000. I know we’re not the cheapest option for personal taxes. But if that price gives you sticker shock, please don’t run away without reading about the benefits below! (Spoiler: individual taxes are where tax savings live.) It can really be worth it.
Nearly all of our clients opt to have us handle their individual taxes. Glancing at our data from April 2025, it was over 95 percent of them.
What about those who don’t opt in? What makes them hesitate?
For some, they have a long, dedicated relationship with their individual tax accountant, and they want to continue working with them. That’s perfectly fine! For others, they think that the fee is too high. (But if you fall into this category, you should definitely read the next section to learn about tax savings.)
Aside from the convenience of just needing to work with one accountant, there’s one more major benefit: tax savings. I’ve always said that personal taxes are where the tax savings are. Recently, someone asked me what that meant.
I explained that most of our clients at CSI are S-Corps or other entity structures that don’t pay tax. Instead, the shareholders pay those taxes on their personal tax returns. That means tax planning – and therefore, tax saving – is done based on knowing which tax bracket the owner is in.
