When it’s time to file your individual taxes, hiring an accountant is a great choice. So, why is it that when you call some monthly accounting firms, they won’t just file your taxes?
It all comes down to the monthly accounting business structure. Not taking individual tax-only clients helps them keep their services as standardized as possible, and, therefore, their fees as minimized as possible for their target client base.
At CSI Accounting & Payroll, we’ve provided monthly accounting services to small businesses for 60 years. That means we know how our business structure works best, despite being asked for exceptions. In this article, I’ll address:
Monthly accounting firms do handle individual taxes, but most only do this if you’re a monthly accounting client. (This is also true at CSI Accounting & Payroll.)
So, why aren’t individual tax services also available to one-off clients? Nearly everyone needs to file individual taxes, which would result in a massive tax season rush if they were all accepted as clients.
To handle the expanded client base, monthly accounting services would need to expand their capacity to fit a once-a-year tax rush. It just doesn’t suit the year-round monthly accounting business strategy very well, which aims to keep fees minimized for the ideal client base.
Business owners and non-business owners alike need to file their individual taxes. What should they do?
Not everyone owns a business. Most non-business owners who don’t want to outsource will use popular tax filing software, like TurboTax or FreeTaxUSA. Ones who want to outsource often go with annual tax preparers, like the ones at H&R Block or the one-man office down the road.
Why are these good options? Because they don’t need any tax strategy. They just need their financial history of the last year recorded. These solutions are very affordable because not a lot goes into them.
As for business owners, since individual taxes are where the savings are, it’s smart to outsource your business taxes and individual taxes together.
Monthly accounting services do exactly that. I’ll tell you how CSI Accounting & Payroll works with your taxes in the next section.
