Whether you handle your small business’s bookkeeping in-house, outsource it, or even work with a monthly accounting service, it sounds like you’re ready to make a change.
No matter your situation, it’s always the right time to switch to an established monthly accounting service. But let’s talk about the BEST time (right now in the fall)!
At CSI Accounting & Payroll, we’ve onboarded new monthly accounting clients for nearly 60 years. That means we’ve answered these questions thousands of times:
When should you switch to a monthly accounting firm like CSI? Whenever you’re thinking of making a change. There is no “wrong” time, and we have the capacity to accept new clients and get their back work done year-round (unlike some smaller monthly firms).
But you want to know the BEST time to switch. Some people think January 1st is best, and others think after tax season is best. Our staff thinks it’s best to join in the fall.
If you need back work done, we can typically handle it faster in the fall. Plus, since we’re not handling taxes yet, we can give you even more attention if you have lots of burning questions at onboarding. (We’re never too busy for you, though!)
January 1st is a time for change. For some, this means starting with a new monthly accounting service. However, there are largely two reasons why someone waits until the start of the year:
Let's talk about them.
Don’t get me wrong – there are some ways that you CAN save money by waiting until January 1st. If your accounting is being done on time and correctly, it can reduce your risk of needing back work by switching when your books are new for the year.
However, sometimes waiting longer will actually cost you more. For every month of bookkeeping or taxes done wrong, there’s a cost to have a professional fix it. This is especially brutal if you already paid someone else for the incorrect work.
The rest of the time, people who say they want to start on January 1st are procrastinating. They’re not ready to make the switch. Over many years, we’ve seen time and time again that these people will never be ready. They will never tell us yes, but they’ll also never tell us no.
Another time for change is after tax season. Your taxes are done, and you’re ready for a reset… but there are also potential issues with this. Remember, sometimes waiting longer will cost you more.
Plus, what if your accountant puts you on extension? You may feel an obligation to stay with them, but it’s a red flag (if you provided the information needed to file on time). If you’re on extension, you can still switch to CSI. We may be able to file your taxes faster than your prior accountant.
Now that you know that the best time of year to start with a new monthly accountant is in the fall (but there’s no bad time for CSI), are you ready to check out our monthly accounting services?
