What Happens Before You Hire CSI? Our Sales & Consultation Process Explained

Handshake in front of CSI sign says: Sales & Consultation Process

So, you’re thinking about scheduling a consultation with CSI. What’s holding you back? For many, it’s the fear of the unknown.

What is CSI’s sales and consultation process like? Let’s talk about it!

At CSI Accounting & Payroll, we’ve provided small business financial services for nearly 60 years. That means we’ve provided thousands of free consultations and answered thousands of questions just like these:

  • Why does CSI offer free consultations?
  • What is the consultation process?
  • How are CSI’s consultations different than other accounting firms’ consultations?

Why CSI Offers Free Consultations

Why do we offer free consultations? Because we benefit from it, and so do you.

The main purpose of our consultation process is to determine who’s a good fit to work with us. By focusing on whether or not we’re a match upfront, we:

  • Save time. (For both parties!) Why would we move forward if we don’t know if it’ll work out?
  • Can provide a more standardized service. This keeps efficiency maximized and fees minimized for all of our new and existing clients.
  • Build trust. This is done by declining bad fits and pointing them in the right direction. Or, if you’re a good fit, you’ll feel like a priority and know that you’re getting a good deal.

Next, I’ll get into the specifics of what the process looks like.

CSI’s Consultation Process

After you submit our consultation form, here’s what happens:

  • Step 1: Qualifying call. Shortly after submitting the form, you'll be called by one of our consultants: Hunter or Ryan. This call is only a few minutes long, and its goal is to see if we might be a good fit before scheduling an in-depth consultation at a time that works best for you.
  • Step 2: Consultation. During the scheduled consultation, we'll cover your business needs, challenges, and goals. Have any questions about us? Ask away!
  • Step 3: Next steps. If we decide to work together, we'll request information to help us give you a custom proposal. Otherwise, if we go our separate ways, we'll offer advice and point you in the right direction. There is no obligation to work with us after the consultation.

Plus, between all of these steps, our consultants will keep in touch. You can expect emails with content that answers your questions about CSI and/or addresses your unique opportunities and challenges.

Sound good? We think so, especially when you consider what other firms’ consultations look like. Let’s talk about the other guys!

Our Consultations vs. Other Firms’ Consultations

How does our consultation compare to our competitors? Here are the key differences. Other firms:

  • Say that everyone is a good fit, and pressure you into a sale. Firms that don’t specialize will often get bogged down with work and charge higher fees, and forcing a deal means unhappy clients and staff.
  • Prioritize small talk over talking about your business. You won’t gain anything from a consultation if you don’t talk about problems and opportunities.
  • Avoid talking about their fees, or give an estimate that’s not based on anything. Cost is a topic that’s frequently avoided by salespeople, but it’s just as bad to be told a random cost that’s not guaranteed.
  • Don’t offer any advice, especially if you don’t want to work with them. If there’s no advice given and no future meetings scheduled, then there’s no value. That makes it a sales pitch, not a consultation.
